Alaska Family Services
The Alaska Family Services was established in 1979 to respond to the needs of women and children in the Mat-Su Borough. The agency began with a small core of basic services and has now grown to provide a number of services for women, children and their families. All programs are designed to strengthen and support individuals and families.
AFS is a 501(c)3 non-profit social service agency that has a mission of providing "Services for Families" through intervention, referral, collaboration, and education. AFS provides numerous services and partnerships throughout the Mat-Su Valley. For more information on specific services please contact directly the individual programs.
The Alaska Family Services Outreach Programs offer many types of information, education and training to the Mat-Su Valley. These services are available throughout the 2500 square miles included in the Mat-Su Borough. The outreach staff will be happy to assist professionals, community members, education providers, and other individuals or groups in attaining information, education and training in the following areas:
* Domestic Violence / Family Violence
* Dating Violence (dynamics, red flags and warning signs)
* Sexual Assault education and prevention
* Abuse and Neglect (laws, reporting and warning signs)
* Domestic Violence and the Effects on Children
* Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
* Safety Planning and Resources
* Chemical Use and Domestic Violence
The Mat-Su Borough experiences one of the highest rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, chemical dependency and child abuse in the nation! Our staff is prepared and able to provide education level and age appropriate information for all members of our community. K-12, college level students, medical professionals, social workers, human service providers, daycare providers, treatment centers, educators and administration as well as employers and employee groups have greatly benefited from these presentations.
