| Who It Serves:
The Adolescent Program is a counseling program available to all Barnwell County students and their families in grades fourth (4) through twelve (12).

| Purpose:
It is designed to meet the needs of those students experiencing a wide range of personal or behavioral problems. Through counseling, the Adolescent Program provides an opportunity for students to learn new ways of coping with difficulties, changing unacceptable behavior, and relating better to family and peers. If there is involvement with alcohol and other drugs they are given an opportunity to learn better ways of handling stress and peer pressure.

| Referral Process:
A student may be referred as part of a disciplinary measure or as a recommendation to the student and /or his family.

| Disciplinary Procedures:
The principal in each school has an assigned person (s) to inform the student and his/her family about the Adolescent Program. The school must contact the Adolescent Program, in writing or by phone, of the referral. A case manager will contact the parents and schedule an appointment. The Adolescent Program will let the school know if the student followed through with services.

| Recommendation:
A parent interested in counseling for their child may call and set up an appointment to meet with a counselor.

| Steps In Using the Program:1. The case manager will contact the parents and arrange an appointment for intake and assessment. This appointment may last up to an hour and a half. The parent must accompany their child.
2. After the assessment process, the student is placed in the appropriate counseling session. 3. The counseling is weekly and the program participation will depend on the student's progress and needs. 4. If the student is required by the school to attend, then they are expected to successfully complete the Adolescent Program. This involve attending weekly meetings and setting goals to change their behavior so they may continue in school with out further incidence. |
