Prevention Services

CareFirst prevention services are designed to reduce the risk of youths from becoming substance abusers, through individual, family and community interventions. We provide information and support to youths in settings that will allow the exploration of positive options available to them in making choices for their future, and to promote the mobilization of community resources towards prevention education. Our primary goal is to reduce/eliminate the occurrence(s) of substance abuse in indigent youth 17 years and below, who are “at risk” due to a combination of environmental factors. Anger Management Program
This is an twelve weeks program, for 1½ hours group sessions focusing on anger management techniques that will influence the consumer towards positive cognitive lifestyle changes. Sessions are performed by trained master-level clinician.

Parenting Classes

The goal of this program is to empower parents to learn and develop effective techniques and skills in rearing their children to help in the prevention of abuse and neglect. This is a twelve (12) week court approved program. Referral are welcomed from schools, DHS, Corrections, doctors, family clinic and other sources.

Alcohol Highway Safety Education Services

This program is designed to assist those individuals who have been arrested for drinking and driving offense. There are two level of education provided: two (2) four (4) hour sessions OR a more intensive personalized series of small group sessions for the repeated offenders.

Driver’s License Appeals & Assessments

The agency does assessments for individuals who have had their licenses suspended, primarily as a result of substance abuse. The assessment is an evaluation of their level of functioning which can be presented at their schedule appeal hearing.

Women’s Specialty Program

This is a gender specific substance abuse treatment and other therapeutic interventions for women which addresses issues of substance abuse, relationships, sexual and physical abuse, parenting and childcare. The therapeutic interventions for children in their custody, will address their child’s developmental needs, issues of sexual and physical abuse and neglect. 

CareFirst is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and certified by the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services for substance abuse programs. CareFirst is also certified by Medicaid. Our staff consist of both Master-level and BA level clinicians who are more than qualified to work with this population.

Helping Hands Place

This program grew out of concern for the lack of emergency and transitional housing for residents who are HIV positive and homeless. The programs provide residents with transitional housing up to two (2) year of programming and services. These services include but not limited to coordination of health care services, HIV counseling, permanent housing search and referrals, transportation, case management, crisis intervention, life-skill development and much more. These individuals are not only homeless with a diagnosis of HIV positive, but are also substance abuser. Therefore the one of the program goal is to increase their knowledge of HIV disease and alcohol/drug addiction.
