The Ernie Turner Center Village of Care Residential Program provides an extended family environment in which individuals work together to support recovery through cooperation and teamwork. At the core of the Village is Alaska Native culture and values: individuals engage in storytelling, talking circles, carving, kuspuk making and bead work as part of their path to sobriety. In the Village, sobriety is understood to involve the whole person, and spiritual needs are addressed as part of recovery. Through daily work therapy, participants gain valuable skills for independent living.
Within the Village, we use gentle persuasion methods and maintain a strict non-violence atmosphere. We can accommodate individuals with both mental health disorders and addictions, as well as those who are experiencing chronic homelessness. The average length of treatment is about six months.
