For over 23 years, the Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse has been the only agency in the seven county area providing comprehensive and compassionate substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services.

BreakAway Health is a comprehensive outpatient treatment program for adolescents, adults and their families needing help with problems resulting from substance abuse and other psychological issues. We view chemical dependency as a progressive illness that affects the entire family. Family involvement is crucial for recovery success.

Our treatment philosophy begins with the idea that abstinence from alcohol, drugs, and all mood-altering substances MUST be the primary goal of treatment. We have incorporated concepts from the Twelve Steps into our programs and encourage all patients to attend Twelve Step meetings in addition to the professional treatment that they receive at Bridge Back to Life.

 The Bridge currently operates 14 programs licensed/certified by the Alabama Department of Youth Services or the Alabama Department of Mental Health – Division of Substance Abuse Services. These programs operate under a single mission to serve adolescents through honor, excellence and integrity.

The Bridge operates a Medically Supervised Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The program provides individual and group treatment, self-help groups based on the 12-step model, and creative arts therapies.

Thirty-five years ago, a small group of forward thinking citizens created a place to house a few men dedicated to living a sober life style. In a small cottage, given by one of the founders, these few men assisted one another in the search for sobriety. By their efforts they established what has become Bridgemark, a comprehensive treatment center serving individuals and families with alcoholism and other addictions.

As part of our pledge to serve the community’s needs, BHS conducts annual Community Health Assessment surveys. The results help us determine ways to improve the community's health through the introduction of new services and education programs.
