Kansas Drug Use Facts and Statistics Most of the drug trafficking in the state of Kansas is control by the Mexian drug organizations, distributing mostly methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. Other criminal drug organizations with links to other states such as Texas, California and Arizona are also involved in the illegal drug distribution activities within the state, and the local Asian and motorcycle gangs as well but to a lesser degree. Cocaine and crack cocaine are easily obtained in Kansas. Most of the cocaine market in Kansas is controlled by Hispanic groups. The majority of the cocaine in the state is transformed in crack cocaine and brought to the inner-city areas. Kansas City is a major cocaine relay point for a great number of cities. Typical cocaine sources come from Mexican organizations in Texas and California and most of the cocaine seized in the Kansas City area can be linked back to Texas or Arizona. Kansas City is also known to be a transshipment zone for cocaine destined from other nearby states such as Ohio, Michigan, New York and New Jersey. Because of the “crash” that people feel a few hours after having used cocaine, they often get the need to feel the pleasure that came when they used cocaine. That plays a major role in the craving and addiction to the drug. That is the beginning of the never-ending downward spiral of cocaine addiction, as it becomes harder and harder to reach the initial high. Visit our our cocaine information page for more on the effects of cocaine. Methamphetamine of Mexican origin is a prevalent drug in all of Kansas. Generally, meth of the Mexican kind is pure and can be acquired for relatively little money. Although certain Kansas laws prevent people from buying chemicals needed for the production of meth, labs are still found scattered across the state, typical found in a host of locations, from private residences to remote farms and hotels. Because of the US regulations on various chemical products, the Mexican groups have become more and more in demand. So they transport great amounts of meth in the United States from Mexico. Mexico does not have any laws against the buying of chemicals to produce methamphetamine. Black tar heroin is not a signifant problem in the state, with user pools remaining small and larger quantities of it are mostly limited to certain cities such as Wichita and Kansas City, and almost inexistant in western Kansas. There has been some white heroin seizures from local authorities, there were reported to be destined for states outside of Kansas. Marijuana is the drug of choice in the state of Kansas, with its abuse being the highest amongst its peers such as cocaine and meth. Controlled by the Mexican DTOs (drug trafficking organizations), large quantities are being transported into the state via interstate highway systems, with certain portions of these shipements heading to other states. Local authorities report that indoor home-grown marijuana remains a significant drug threat and concern for the state, due to its higher quality and demand. A particular brand of marijuana known as "Purple Kush" has been tied to several homicide cases.
