DUI Iowa Drug & Alcohol Rehab Treatment

The Iowa State officials take drunk driving offenses very seriously. This is shown by the penalties given to a first-time DUI offender. The offender could go to jail for up to a full year. The mandatory time is 48 hours, but if there are special circumstances, the court could impose a longer sentence. The fine will be between 500 and 1,000 dollars. There will also be an evaluation that the offender will have to go through so that a substance abuse problem can be found if it exists. You license will be suspended for 6 months but there is a possibility to apply for restricted license. The court might force the offender to install and ignition interlock device on your car.

The second DUI offense is considered to be an aggravated misdemeanour and has the following penalties. Jail time for the offender is at least a week and maximum sentence is two years. The judgment and sentencing will happen right away, with no possibility of delaying it. The fine goes up on the second offense, it ranges between 1,500 and 5,000 dollars. There is a possibility that you will have to go through a DUI program. You will have no right to drive for at two years and it could go up to six years under certain circumstances. The possibility to get a restricted license until at least one year has passed.

For the third conviction and all the others afterwards, the Iowa state officials judge that it is a Class D Felony, so the Iowa state will detain the offender in the Iowa Department of Corrections for a maximum period of five years. There is however a mandatory jail time of 30 days. $2,500 to $7,500 are the usual range for the fine. The offender will have to be evaluated and maybe asked to follow a treatment. License suspension of 6 years and the only way to get a restricted license at this point is to wait a year and get a ignition interlock device on his car.

This goes to show that Iowa does not take DUI offenders lightly and so it is dangerous to drive while under the influence for the population and for the driver. People addicted to alcohol or drugs are subject to the same laws.
