DUI Utah Drug & Alcohol Rehab Treatment

The state of Utah is considered to have some of the most bizarre liquor laws in the country. It was not until 1917 that the state of Utah brought forward prohibition legislation, and at that time it became the twenty fourth state to do so. Utah was also one of the very last states to pass the legislation, which regulates the manufacturing and consumption of alcohol. It was not until the year of 1933 that the state of Utah became the thirty sixth state to abolish the prohibition laws. The Utah DMV shows the cost of a first time DUI at approximately $9000.

DUI in Utah means Driving While Intoxicated, meaning not having the normal use of your mental and physical abilities due to any form of drug or alcohol use. Every citizen who does receive a license in Utah automatically gives consent for BAC, or Blood Alcohol Content Tests. This means that your blood, breath, and urine can be tested if you are under suspicion of being under the influence of either drugs or alcohol so even people addicted to drugs needs to be careful. The ‘per-se’ law of Utah is, if your blood alcohol content is that of .08%, you can be charged with a criminal offence. This percentage constitutes that of being impaired, and you can also be prosecuted while driving under the influence. This can only happen if you are proven to have been driving in an unsafe manner.

Your first time arrested and charged in the state of Utah, you will be placed in jail for a 48 hour period and fined $700. Your license will also be revoked for 90 days, and you may also have to do some community service work. You may also be placed on house arrest with an electronic monitoring program. You will then be asked to pay for out of your own pocket, drug and alcohol screening along with some educational classes. Your second offence within a 10 year period will have consequences that consist of an $800 fine and a jail sentence of 10 days. Your license will then be suspended for a period of one year as well. You will have to do some community service and you will be placed on house arrest. You will have to take drug and alcohol screening, and take part in a series of educational courses related to drugs and alcohol. You will of course have to pay for this yourself.

Your third time convicted and charged in the state of Utah, you will be placed in jail for 1500 hours, and you will be fined $1500. Your license will be suspended for one year, and you will have to take alcohol and blood screening tests. You will be ordered to attend an intensive care drug and alcohol treatment program at your own cost. There will be 240 hours of community service, and also some other penalties, including more jail time and an extended period of your license being revoked.
