What are relapse triggers?

A relapse trigger is something that will cause a person to relapse once they are out of treatment and back into the real world again. For example, if an individual came from a rough environment and then returns to this same environment this would be considered a relapse trigger. In other circumstances it could be connecting up with old friends, or not having handled family relations, or starting to drink again. Anything that may have triggered a person to use drugs within the past can be considered a relapse trigger for a former addict when they leave drug rehabilitation.
