Overdose and Abuse In 2004, there were over 8000 overdoses reported to the US Poison control center. The most common reason given as to why the overdose occurred was, suicide and drug addiction. The most common ways of abusing Ritalin is to crush up the pills and either snort them or through injection. When these methods of use are taken underway, the user will experience the same effects as cocaine; yet, more potent then cocaine. In the USA Ritalin is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, and is recognized for it medical use, but has a high potential for dependency.
