Alaska has a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), which requires from professionals that are licensed and that dispense prescriptions that they submit the information concerning each prescription of controlled substances (Schedule II-IV) that they dispense. It is the state's solution to help monitor the dispensing of these substances, so as to reduce its misuse and abuse.

A benzodiazepine is in a classification of drug known as tranquilizers, and are often prescribed to treat problems such as anxiety, insomnia, alcohol withdrawal, and muscle relaxation.
