Allegany County is a county that can be found in the state of Maryland in the northeastern United States. Home to an estimated population of around 70,000 people as of 2019 according to the United States Census Bureau, Allegany County is one of the larger counties in the state by population. This makes the risk of drug addiction and overdose even higher since there has long been a correlation between population density and substance abuse. From 2015 to 2017 there were 100 drug deaths in Allegany County according to County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, a rate which is extremely high and shows just a glimpse of the total number of people struggling with drug addiction in the area. These are only the people who didn’t make it through another year. So many more people use drugs and struggle with addiction that quietly make it by but will soon become a statistic if they do not get the help that they need before it is too late. Even more people will begin using drugs this year, and many of them will accidentally overdose before ever being ready to get help. This shows why you should never ignore signs of drug use in a loved one or wait for them to come to their senses. One day you may discover that it is too late to do anything to save their life.
