GET A CALL BACK

Apache County is located in the northeastern corner of the state of Arizona. With a population of 71,518, Apache County is the tenth largest county in Arizona as of the 2010 United States census. Unfortunately, more people often means more issues with things like drug and alcohol abuse. This is the case with Apache County, who saw 21 drug overdose deaths from 2015-2017 according to a report published by County Health Rankings and Roadmaps. These lives could have been saved if these people had gotten the right help at the right time and had found recovery. Who knows how many more people are using drugs and alcohol and in need of treatment services in Apache county, who could avoid becoming the next drug overdose death statistic.

Some of those who died may have been to treatment before. Since it was clearly unsuccessful if this was the case, it could be for a few reasons that the person didn't find recovery. This is unfortunate and can lead the person to believe that treatment doesn't work, when in fact it was just a matter of them not choosing the right type of program for their needs. That's why it's so important to be educated on the different types of treatment, as well as being completely honest with the addiction professional you speak with about your drug use. Certain drugs like tranquilizers and alcohol may not be safe to come off of without utilizing a medical detoxification program where the person can be supervised and assisted in becoming drug-free without the risks associated with seizures and other withdrawal symptoms. Other drugs like opioids may cause addiction so severe that the withdrawal symptoms are intolerable and too excruciating to endure. Again, medical detoxification may allow the person to get through these symptoms by utilizing specialized medications to alleviate the discomforts and gradually taper the person off drugs. If medical detox wasn't utilized when it was necessary, not only would it be unsafe, but unsuccessful and the person may decide that treatment does not work when in fact it does.

Beyond detoxification, a person needs to select a drug treatment program. Contrary to popular belief, medical detox isn't treatment and does nothing to address a person's addiction. Medical detox only addresses physical dependence. This is why people who quit drugs or alcohol on their own frequently relapse and repeat this cycle multiple times before finally reaching out for treatment. All they're doing is drying out in between binges. Many people who complete medical detoxification fall into this same trap. They feel so much better after they get off everything that they think all their problems are handled and they just want to get back to life. But you can't spend months of years messing up your mind and body, then expect to have everything handled in a few days. Treatment consists of helping a person handle the underlying issues that keep leading them to reach for substances to cope with life. Additionally, treatment will help an individual to repair relationships in their life that were damaged from their drug use and learn skills to use in life to prevent relapse.
