Are All Prescription Drugs Abused?

No, not all prescription drugs are abused or can be abused.  There are numerous prescription drugs needed for legitimate medical reasons.  The most commonly abused prescription drugs abused are opioids, central nervous system Definition of the word central nervous system depressants, and stimulants.  The definition of narcotic is a drug or other substance affecting mood or behavior and sold for nonmedical purposes, especially an illegal one.  Prescription drugs become narcotics when they are used for non-medical reasons.  This can also include over the counter drugs such as cough and cold medicines.  Standardly narcotics are often described as being opium or morphine. 

Furthermore, narcotics would be drugs that in moderate doses dulls the senses, relieves pain, and induces profound sleep in excessive doses, per the Merriam Webster Dictionary.  Many of the prescription drug abuse problems start with misuse.  A patient simply taking more than required, upping their dosage, or combining the drug with alcohol to intensify the high.  When you have been prescribed an addictive prescription drug, use it as directed by the doctor.  Prescription drug addiction and dependency can be avoided.  Yet, the warnings from doctors, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and government agencies are simply ignored.

Each year more Americans become addicted to these drugs, and each year more Americans die because of these drugs.  Prescription drugs are the ultimate quick fix for any problem.  There is a strong mentality within the United States to rely on drugs to fix the issues.  Not every healthcare professional thinks this way.  Nor does every American, but pharmaceutical companies stand to lose billions of dollars if Americans are not dependent on addictive prescription drugs.
