Cambridge is a city that can be found in the state of Maryland. It is home to an estimated population of more than 12,000 people as of 2019 according to the United States Census Bureau. This makes Cambridge one of the smaller cities in the state according to population. But even being small and sparsely populated has not been enough for rural areas to escape the grip of the nation’s drug epidemic. It has been a problem across the state since the early 2000s. In 2019 there were 30.2 drug deaths for every 100,000 residents of the state of Maryland according to America’s Health Rankings. Every single drug death was a lifer that could have been saved if the person had gotten the help that they needed before it was too late. This rate is incredibly high, even when compared to national rates, showing just how bad the drug problem is. But so many people there are not getting help. This is not necessarily because treatment centers in the area are doing a bad job or anything like that. It could be that many people never make it into treatment before accidentally overdosing and losing their life to drugs because they do not yet want help. In early addiction, this is common and is a perfect example of why you should never wait for a loved one to be “ready” when they are using drugs. Act before it is too late to help them.
