Cecil County is a county which is located in the state of Maryland. It is home to a population that is estimated to be around 102,000 people as of 2019 according to the United States Census Bureau. This makes Cecil County one of the larger counties in the state by population something which has become a drawback as America’s drug epidemic has swept the nation. From 2015 to 2017 there were 153 drug deaths in Cecil County according to a report from County Health Rankings and Roadmaps. This total is one of the highest in the state and reflects only a small portion of those who did not get the help they needed from drug and alcohol rehabilitation and detox services. Every death could have been avoided with proper intervention and treatment. So many of these people never even saw the inside of a treatment center before losing their lives to drugs, something which shows how it is not necessarily the fault of our rehabilitation system that we continue to struggle with addiction. Part of the problem in the massive amount of false information and bad advice that exists in the filed which has been directly responsible for the loss of many lives. Saying about how you cannot help someone else if they do not want help are not only false but dangerously misleading. Though these began as a way to comfort grief-stricken families who lost someone to addiction, they are falsehoods that people actually believe and further by preaching these same principles to others. Intervention exists because it works. Use it before it is too late to save the life of someone you love. No one wants to regret not doing everything possible to save a life.
