Between 2006 and 2007, the rate of deaths due to alcohol and drug use was 51.6 per 100,000. According to the assessment, the rate of hospitalizations due to alcohol and drug use has fluctuated each year but has remained higher than the state average. Excessive drinking or binge drinking does contribute to many other social and economic issues in life. Drinking and driving, for example, is a dangerous problem and does result in loss of life every year. In 2012 in Lake County, there were 60 people killed because of drinking and driving.
