College and University Students Addiction Services in California

The education offerings in California are extensive with endless options for potential students to choose from. Throughout the state are more than three million students enrolled in colleges and universities. There are ten campuses for the University of California, there is also the California State Universities, and over 120 community colleges. The higher education system within the state is the largest in the country. There are over 50 public four-year institutions and over 170 nonprofit private schools. Two of the colleges in the state rank among the 100 best schools in the nation. For the average student who goes to school, they are focused on the goal of graduating. However, for some, the partying gets out of control and there are serious consequences. Each year, there are students being charged with drug or alcohol-related offenses. When this happens, it makes it difficult to find work after college. If you are struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction, you should be reaching out for help. Adolescent and Young Adult Substance Abuse and Rehabilitation in California

From 2015 to 2016, young adults aged 18 to 25 in California had the highest rates of substance abuse and addiction. Roughly 9 out of 10 young adults in the state had met the criteria for a substance abuse problem, which began with smoking, drinking, or using drugs before the age of 18. Between 2015 to 2016, around 8.5% of adolescents and young adults were abusing any substances, 15% of young adults were using any substance, and approximately 5.1% were abusing illegal substances. During that same time, around 6.4% of both adolescents and young adults were abusing alcohol, while only 2.3% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 were abusing alcohol.

Young adults in California from 2015 to 2016 have the highest rates of illegal drug use, with 7.9% of them abusing illicit substances. Around 3.9% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 were abusing illegal substances in the state, while 3.3% of both young adults and adolescents were abusing illicit drugs in California. Substance abuse treatment for adolescents and young adults in California involves both outpatient and inpatient treatment programs. Outpatient drug treatment is the most commonly used type of treatment, but may not be successful for every kind of drug problem. More long-term severe drug problems require lengthy residential treatment, especially for adolescent drug abuse.
