Within the state of Missouri are over ten public colleges/universities, and around 60 nonprofit private schools. Each school offers a large variety of options for students to choose from. Five of the colleges within the state rank among the top 100 best schools in the nation. Washington University in St. Louis ranks among the 100 best universities in the world. When you are selecting the program and courses you want to take while in school, it is often based on your career path. Drugs and alcohol will get in the way of this, and make it difficult to graduate. Drug and alcohol abuse does affect your academic performance. Students will struggle with lower grades, meeting deadlines, and missing classes because of substance abuse. If you find yourself in this situation, you should be reaching out for help. There are different inpatient and outpatient drug rehab centers throughout the state. Most of the colleges in Missouri provide college counseling programs for students. Recovering addicts in college may find recovery groups at their school. It is important not to succumb to the peer pressure and manage the stress in a healthy way.
