When this drug is used and taken as directed, it is typically not habit forming, but when the drug is abused and used excessively it can become habit forming. It will become addictive when abused in large quantities and when mixed with other drugs such as marijuana or alcohol. Some of the physical signs include feelings of detachment from the body, depression, double vision, drowsiness, vomiting, and symptoms of psychosis. DXM has been known to cause serious illness or even death in some rare cases, but these are the extreme cases with people are using the drug excessively, and mixing it with other drugs.
