Del Norte County Drug & Alcohol Prevention Programs

This is where prevention comes in. As we’ve established, the youth of the county are exposed very young to drugs and alcohol. In order to combat this, there are several prevention programs put in place in Del Norte County. Above the Influence is a social media program that focuses on changing the norms of the county’s youth. They are aware that peer pressure is very real in many ways, including for drugs & alcohol, and for youth as young as 5th grade. With this in mind, they share positive alternatives through social media and host community events for youth, so they do not give in to the pressure of negative influences. Del Norte Youth Council is composed of high school students who want to help other youths to be resilient in the face of negative social norms. They do so through social media and events. They have developed workshops to help young people and advise them on how to have a healthy lifestyle, how to deal with high school and how to handle social media, only to name a few.
