Lake County forms the Clearlake California micropolitan statistical areas and is north of the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2013, Lake County had a death rate average of 1,234 per 100,000 population. Across the state of California, alcohol abuse and addiction were more prevalent than other types of drug addiction. Approximately six percent of the residents in California reported meeting the criteria for having an alcohol addiction.
