Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit outpatient addiction treatment provider located on Chicago’s West Side at its Lake Street facility. The center is licensed by the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) to provide Level I and Level II outpatient care and offers all services at no cost, regardless of a client’s ability to pay. Above and Beyond serves adults across all communities, with a focus on individuals facing substance use alongside homelessness, unemployment, or justice involvement.
Treatment Structure and Clinical Approach
The center offers both group and individual therapy facilitated by licensed clinicians and certified counselors. Treatment begins with a walk-in or referral conversation, followed by a psychosocial substance use assessment, after which clients assessed as Level I or Level II appropriate meet with a primary counselor to develop and sign a treatment plan addressing ASAM dimensions. Group sessions are held Mondays through Wednesdays, covering substance use education, stages of change, and emotional processing, while individual counseling and case management are scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays. Trauma-focused group work is integrated into the treatment process, with primary counselors assessing each client’s need for ongoing trauma support alongside substance use treatment. Discharge planning includes aftercare coordination, alumni orientation, and employment readiness assessment.
Sober Support and Recovery Pathways
Above and Beyond offers multiple pathways to recovery rather than a single model. Sober support meetings are held Monday through Friday and are open to the public, with options including SMART Recovery, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), 12-step meetings, Recovery Dharma, and meditation. The center’s broader approach also addresses housing, employment, medical care, and nutrition as part of a holistic recovery framework, and clients are encouraged to shape their own recovery plans with clinical guidance.
