Alternative Drug & Alcohol Counseling (ADAC) is an outpatient substance abuse treatment program with an office in Cumberland, Maryland. ADAC is a program of Potomac Community Services and offers individualized counseling, group therapy, intensive outpatient services, and addiction education for individuals, families, and significant others affected by substance use disorders. The program takes a holistic approach to care, addressing emotional, mental, physical, and social wellness with a focus on long-term abstinence and recovery.
Outpatient Treatment and Evaluation Services
ADAC provides structured outpatient treatment at varying levels of intensity, with length of stay based on severity of needs and ASAM level of care criteria, with Maryland COMAR regulations identifying 26 weeks as a standard treatment period. Services include individual, couple, and family counseling, supportive group therapy focused on abstinence and resolving substance use issues, and intensive outpatient programming. The program also conducts comprehensive substance use evaluations, typically lasting 60 to 90 minutes, that review substance use and addiction history alongside legal, medical, and family background. ADAC is approved to perform DMV, SAP, and DOT evaluations and offers a 12-hour DUI education program for first-time offenders, along with urinalysis and ETG (extended alcohol) testing.
Additional Services and Specialties
Beyond core substance use disorder treatment, ADAC provides specialty services in areas including gambling addiction, adult children of alcoholics, co-dependency, and anger management. The Cumberland office also offers 5-point detox and biotuning services, as well as adolescent counseling. The program accepts Maryland Medicaid, major credit cards, and cash, and operates Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ADAC also maintains a Hagerstown office for clients in Washington County.
