Brooke’s House is a community-based residential treatment and counseling center for women with substance use disorders in Hagerstown, Maryland. Founded by Kevin and Dana Simmers in memory of their daughter Brooke, who died from a drug overdose in 2015 at age nineteen, the organization provides a safe, stable, and emotionally supportive living environment for adult women in the early stages of recovery. Brooke’s House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and offers residential substance abuse treatment alongside outpatient counseling services across the state of Maryland.
Residential Treatment and Counseling Services
Brooke’s House provides Level 3.1 residential substance abuse treatment for women, with admission on a referral basis. The program is built around a structured living environment that combines life skills development, employment support, and access to community resources. The organization also operates a counseling center offering individual substance use disorder treatment in sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes, using cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, and relapse prevention techniques. Outpatient group treatment runs 60 to 90 minutes weekly and covers topics including communication skills, confidence building, decision-making, coping strategies, and refusal skills.
Intensive Outpatient Program
For women who need a higher level of outpatient support, Brooke’s House offers an intensive outpatient program that meets four days a week for a minimum of nine hours of group sessions weekly. The IOP curriculum addresses stabilization in recovery, self-esteem, healthy decision-making, coping and refusal skills, relapse prevention, managing urges and cravings, addiction brain chemistry, the Twelve Steps, and spirituality. Clients in the intensive outpatient program also receive individual sessions at least twice monthly. The organization’s counseling services extend statewide across all 24 Maryland counties.
