The Center for Life Skills Development is a state-licensed outpatient counseling agency in Tucson, Arizona, providing substance abuse treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program, DUI education and treatment, and relapse prevention services to adults, with over 24 years of community presence. The bilingual team of licensed counselors serves both English- and Spanish-speaking clients and accepts most AHCCCS insurance plans.
An IOP Designed for Working Adults With Substance Use Disorders
The Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program is structured specifically for adults with substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions who do not require medical detox or 24-hour supervision. Each group session runs three hours with two 15-minute breaks, and a Certificate of Completion requires 48 group sessions, but unlike many programs, attendance flexibility is built in for working adults who cannot commit to a fixed weekly schedule unless court-mandated to do so. The IOP satisfies court, DCS, and substance abuse program requirements, and is also open to individuals attending voluntarily to strengthen relapse prevention skills and expand their sober support network.
A Group-Based Model That Builds Community and Coping Skills
The IOP’s group format is intentional. It creates the peer accountability, shared experience, and social support that are essential to early recovery and difficult to replicate in individual-only treatment. Participants connect with others navigating similar challenges, share relapse prevention strategies, and practice healthy ways of interacting without the use of substances. Those further along in their own recovery provide a stabilizing presence for newer participants, reinforcing their own sobriety in the process. The program addresses the underlying psychological, social, and emotional causes of substance use.
Evidence-Based Clinical Approaches Including CBT, EMDR, and Seeking Safety
The Center’s clinical team brings a range of evidence-based treatment modalities to its substance use work. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a core specialty, working from the principle that changing thought patterns changes feelings and behavior regardless of external circumstances. EMDR is available for clients whose substance use is intertwined with trauma, providing an integrative eight-phase process for identifying and processing traumatic experiences. The Seeking Safety program, a trauma and addiction co-treatment model, is also offered, recognizing the frequent overlap between trauma history and substance use disorders.
DUI Services, Court Diversion, and Co-Occurring Support
Beyond the IOP, the Center provides DUI education and treatment services for clients with court-related DUI requirements, as well as court diversion programming and court-ordered monitoring. Addiction treatment at the Center covers alcohol, drug, gambling, and other addictive behaviors, and the clinical team is equipped to address co-occurring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD, that frequently accompany substance use disorders.
