Heartland Center for Behavioral Change runs an outpatient clinic in Reeds Spring, Missouri, one of the organization’s southwest Missouri sites. Adults dealing with alcohol or drug use disorders are treated without leaving home, coming in at a frequency the treatment plan sets, anywhere from every day to once a month. Heartland is a nonprofit accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
Determining the Right Level of Care
Every client starts with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment carried out by a licensed mental health professional in tandem with a qualified substance use disorder professional. The results tell the clinic what the person needs, form the basis of the individual treatment plan, and settle which level of intensity to enroll in, a determination reached with the client rather than handed to them. Heartland attaches no predetermined duration to treatment, reasoning that people progress at different rates and that the best outcomes come when the length of care corresponds to the individual.
Treatment Components
The program pairs individual counseling with group counseling and adds structured education groups. Peer support services are offered, community support assistance addresses obstacles that sit outside the treatment room, and clients are connected to self-help groups. Medication assistance rounds out the services. Family members are encouraged to join in a client’s treatment, and everyone providing care holds certification or licensure from the Missouri Credentialing Board or another applicable licensing authority.
Cost and Heartland’s Wider Operations
No one is denied services at Heartland for inability to pay, and a fee schedule discounted according to income and family size can be requested. Local, state, and federal funding partners support the organization’s work. Heartland’s other southwest Missouri clinics sit in Branson, Nixa, Cassville, Bolivar, and Springfield, while its inpatient withdrawal management facility and residential programs are based in the Kansas City area.
