Heartland Center for Behavioral Change’s Springfield site pairs an outpatient clinic with the organization’s Greene County drug court services, serving adults in Springfield, Missouri. It delivers substance use treatment that clients attend while continuing to live at home, and it is one of two Heartland locations in the city. Heartland is a nonprofit accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and certified by the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
Drug Court Services
Heartland describes drug court as among the most effective approaches for helping people whose substance use has carried them into the legal system. The model places judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and treatment professionals on a single team, so that a participant’s case and their treatment advance together rather than on separate tracks. The organization provides these services to adults referred through treatment courts in Greene County and in Jackson County on the Kansas City side of the state. Support for the drug court work comes from a community-backed anti-drug tax and from the state office that administers Missouri’s courts.
Outpatient Treatment
Anyone entering treatment begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment performed by a licensed mental health professional together with a qualified substance use disorder professional, and what that assessment finds shapes both the individual plan and the level of intensity, which can run from daily attendance down to monthly contact. Heartland sets no predetermined length of treatment, holding that people move at their own pace and that duration should follow the individual rather than a schedule. Care consists of individual and group counseling, structured education groups, peer support services, community support assistance, involvement in self-help groups, and medication assistance, with family members encouraged to take part. Staff delivering these services are certified or licensed through the Missouri Credentialing Board or the body governing their profession.
Other Court-Referred Services
Beyond drug court, Heartland accepts referrals from municipal and circuit courts for a range of mandated programs. These include supervised private probation, individual evaluations and counseling, a drug awareness class, urinalysis testing, and classes addressing anger control and domestic violence, alongside diversion and driver improvement options. The organization also operates the state’s substance abuse traffic offender program, so several of the routes a court can take with a defendant lead back to the same provider.
