Helping Up Mission’s Women’s Center Spiritual Recovery Program is a twelve-month residential addiction recovery program for women in Baltimore, Maryland. The program serves women experiencing addiction and homelessness, integrating primary healthcare and behavioral health with spiritual 12-step principles in what the organization describes as combining the best of faith and science. Helping Up Mission holds CARF accreditation and has served over 1,000 women through its Women’s Center, which also includes a specialized Center for Women and Children for pregnant women, new mothers, and infants.
A Four-Phase Recovery Program
The Spiritual Recovery Program is structured across four phases over twelve months, with women progressing at their own pace through individualized treatment coordination. Phase One, Discovery, covers the first 60 days and focuses on acclimating to the program’s daily structure while beginning recovery and trauma healing through group work. Phase Two, Growth, runs from days 61 through 150 and targets sobriety, spiritual development, wellness, relationships, and community reintegration. Phase Three, Transformation, spans days 151 through 275 and emphasizes inner healing, discipleship, and job readiness through workforce development. Phase Four, Life Preparation, covers days 276 through 365 and includes leadership training along with outside employment and education pursuits. Throughout the program, residents receive counseling, recovery and trauma healing groups, and treatment counselor coordination alongside life enrichment activities.
Graduate Support and the Center for Women and Children
Upon graduation, women can access continued residential or non-residential Graduate Supportive Housing with monthly assessments to support their transition. The Women’s Center also operates the Center for Women and Children, opened in 2022, which provides individual family suites in a homelike setting for women, pregnant women, and new mothers with infants. This specialized track follows the same twelve-month, four-phase structure and offers wrap-around services addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing, along with workforce development, education, and life enrichment activities. The Women’s Center additionally partners with Johns Hopkins through its CAP Partnership, which provides outpatient services for pregnant women with substance use disorders.
