Jeremiah’s Inn is a nonprofit organization in Worcester, Massachusetts, whose residential program provides social model addiction treatment for adult men. Founded in 1982 to serve homeless men in the community, the organization expanded into substance use recovery in 1996 and today helps more than one hundred men each year work toward sobriety. Alongside its residential treatment, Jeremiah’s Inn operates a community nutrition center and food pantry as well as a separate sober living residence, reflecting a broad, community-rooted approach to recovery and stability.
A Social Model Residential Program for Men
At the core of Jeremiah’s Inn is a Social Model Recovery program for men aged eighteen and older, which combines strong case management with peer-oriented, experiential learning grounded in the principles of the Twelve Steps. The program views addiction as a complex condition affecting body, mind, and spirit, and it builds an individualized plan for each resident using ASAM criteria to match support to need. A peer leadership model encourages residents to learn from one another as they set attainable goals, change old patterns, and practice the daily habits of living in recovery. This structured yet supportive setting gives men the stability to focus on meaningful, lasting change.
Whole-Person Recovery and Community Connection
Consistent with its holistic philosophy, the program surrounds residents with activities that strengthen the body, calm the mind, and build sober community. These include fitness and exercise classes, meditation and Reiki sessions, and a variety of sober recreational outings, along with volunteer opportunities such as work with the Community Harvest Project. Residents can also take part in a local co-ed sober softball league and access the YMCA, giving them healthy, engaging ways to connect with others and rebuild a fulfilling life without substances.
Recovery Residence and Community Services
For men continuing their recovery, Jeremiah’s Inn also operates Jeremiah’s House, a sixteen-bed recovery residence that opened in 2022 and provides sober living at the ASAM 3.1 level of care. This residence is located separately on Highland Street in Worcester, apart from the organization’s main residential treatment location, and was created to help address the shortage of safe housing for men completing that stage of care. Beyond its recovery programs, the organization runs a nutrition center and food pantry that supports individuals and families facing food insecurity, along with an alumni program that keeps graduates connected to the Jeremiah’s Inn community.
