The Native American Connections programs began in 1972 and started as a self-help support group for Native American men who were addicted to alcohol and or were homeless. Today the program offers residential treatment for adults and provides traditional healing programs, and can help families and children. Native American program created by Native Americans for local Natives and non-Natives alike. Native American Connections Inc. delivers a spiritual and holistic program to its clients. Outpatient in nature. Long-term if needed to create total sobriety. As the story goes… in 1972 five Indian men came together because of their compassion and concern for Native American men who came to Phoenix seeking jobs and education, and instead found themselves homeless and living on the streets abusing alcohol and drugs. In recovery themselves, and mainly using the 12-Step program and their Native cultural teachings, they founded Indian Rehabilitation now known as Native American Connections (1999). The Founders kept things simple and decades later, Native American Connections still keeps its recovery philosophy simple:
-
- Holistic Wellness – Healthy Mind, Body, Spirit
-
- Family Healing – Circle of Strength 16-Hour Family Intensive Program
-
- Researched-based methods adapted to the cultural attunement of each client
-
- Native traditional healing practices & engagement of elders
-
- 12-Step programs
-
- Employing graduates in recovery for peer support
-
- As there is a significant representation of Native Americans in the Phoenix area, The Native Americans Connections group has set up many different branches all across the state of Arizona to help those Natives who suffer from addiction to drugs and alcohol. This particular center has a really strong focus on providing a vast arrangement of different services. The center also has a strong point on its ability to utilize family therapy and family counseling, and to make the family members and loved ones of addicts in the area a big part of any addict’s treatment approach. The Native American Connections Inc. Outpatient Clinic is a great counseling and family resource for Native families with an addicted family member.
