Harvey House School of Ministry is a free, faith-based residential recovery program for men operated by Restoration Ministries in Harvey, Illinois. Restoration Ministries has served the community since 1988, providing life-changing programs for recovering addicts, at-risk youth, and families in need. In 2009, the organization built a new 25,000-square-foot facility that brought Harvey House, its after-school program, food pantry, and administrative offices together under one roof. Restoration Ministries also operates Tabitha House for Women, a separate residential recovery program in South Holland, Illinois.
A 12-to-18-Month Residential Program
Harvey House is a Christian-training residential program designed to take men from maintenance to mission. The program is structured around Bible studies, devotionals, and counseling through which residents gain an understanding of Christian doctrine, rebuild family relationships, discover their personal gifts, and learn to disciple others. Residents are not permitted to hold a job until the third phase of the program, allowing them to focus entirely on their recovery and growth during the earlier stages. While at Harvey House, men complete their education and participate as volunteers in Restoration Ministries’ other community programs, including its thrift store operations, which serve as a source of job training. There is no cost to live at Harvey House.
Admissions and Program Goals
Men seeking admission must have a minimum of five to seven days clean time and be willing to submit to random drug testing throughout the program. Applicants are either recommended by the residential staff team or, if coming from an outside referral, must have a written referral accepted by the admissions board. All residents commit to the program’s goals of recovery, restoration, reinstatement, and re-entry into positive, productive lives, and must be open to change according to Christian principles. Harvey House does not limit its participants by race, color, or nationality.
