The Salvation Army Chicago Northside Adult Rehabilitation Center is a residential addiction recovery program on Clybourn Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The facility is part of the Salvation Army’s national network of Adult Rehabilitation Centers, which has provided no-cost recovery services for over a century. The Northside ARC offers a six-month, faith-based work-therapy program for adults aged eighteen and older who are struggling with alcohol and substance abuse.
A Faith-Based Work-Therapy Model
Residents at the Northside ARC live in a substance-free environment for 180 days while participating in a structured program that integrates work therapy, counseling, and spiritual care. Work therapy assignments of up to forty hours per week help participants develop reliable work habits and rebuild self-esteem. Alongside the work component, residents receive individual and group counseling, spiritual direction, and life skills development. The program also includes recreational activities and prepares participants for reentry through job placement assistance, resume building, interview preparation, and training in workplace conduct and conflict resolution.
Admission and Program Support
The program is provided at no charge, and insurance is not required. Prospective participants undergo a staff assessment to determine program appropriateness. Throughout the six-month stay, the center supplies housing, meals, and supportive services, with the goal of helping residents regain stability, rebuild family relationships, and transition to independent, productive living. The Northside facility also houses administrative offices for the Chicago ARC network, and program operations are funded in part through donations sold at Salvation Army thrift stores across the Chicago area.
