The Salvation Army New Orleans Adult Rehabilitation Center is a 60-bed, long-term residential recovery program for men in New Orleans, Louisiana. The center serves men between the ages of 21 and 62 who are struggling with substance abuse and have lost the ability to cope with their problems, providing spiritual, social, and emotional assistance through a structured, faith-based program. The program is offered generally at no cost to participants and does not require insurance, with operations funded through The Salvation Army’s thrift store network.
A 180-Day Residential Work-Therapy Program
The New Orleans ARC requires a minimum six-month commitment and delivers care through a holistic model that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of addiction. The program combines individual and group counseling with spiritual programming that includes chapel services, Bible study, and pastoral counseling. Participants must pass a drug test and breathalyzer upon arrival and commit to all program activities, counseling sessions, classes, and worship services. Life skills development is integrated throughout the program to help men build the foundation they need to sustain recovery after graduation.
Work Therapy and Reintegration
A central component of the ARC model is work therapy, with participants taking on meaningful assignments of up to eight hours per day designed to restore self-esteem, build discipline, and develop strong work habits. Assignments are individualized based on each participant’s needs and progress. As men move toward the end of the program, staff assist with job applications and employment readiness to support a successful transition back into the community. The center also provides housing, three daily meals, clothing, laundry facilities, and recreational activities. Men who are not determined to be a fit for the program during the intake interview are referred to alternative services in the community.
