About this center

Way Back Inn operates two extended residential care houses in Maywood, Illinois, as part of its network of addiction treatment facilities serving the greater Chicago area. The organization is accredited by CARF, licensed by the State of Illinois, and staffed by a clinical team that includes board-certified physicians, doctoral-level psychologists, licensed counselors, certified gambling specialists, and registered dietitians. Way Back Inn treats substance use disorders, gambling disorders, and co-occurring conditions through a personalized, holistic approach to recovery.

A Structured Path to Independent Living

Residents in extended residential care at Way Back Inn typically stay between ninety days and one year, progressing at a pace tailored to their individual recovery. Unlike inpatient settings, the program allows residents to hold employment, volunteer in the community, and attend outside support meetings, with nightly curfews and scheduled therapeutic programming providing daily structure. Treatment incorporates individual and group therapy, process-oriented counseling, relapse prevention planning, and emotional regulation skills, alongside creative and wellness activities such as art, music, and yoga. The household operates as a shared community where residents take part in cooking, cleaning, and daily upkeep, building the routines and accountability that support long-term sobriety.

Continued Support and Family Programming

Graduates of the extended residential program can step into Way Back Inn’s recovery homes for ongoing peer support during the transition back to fully independent living. The organization also provides a young adult recovery home program for those aged eighteen to twenty-four dealing with opioid and stimulant use, offering peer-driven support, vocational training, and optional trauma-informed therapy at no cost through grant funding. Way Back Inn’s free Saturday family group brings together community members and loved ones affected by addiction for psychoeducation and process-oriented therapy focused on the family system.
