Drug & Alcohol Addiction Services for the LGBTQ Community in Alaska

There are many reasons why members of the LGBTQ community have higher rates of substance abuse. This can include discrimination and stigma, hate crimes, and being rejected for family or friends. Members of the LGBTQ community in Alaska who are battling drug addiction and need help should be reaching to local treatment programs for help. Each addiction is different from the next, and some addicts may require more in-depth help than others. A drug treatment program that would be considered LGBTQ specific, would provide counseling and therapy that are sensitive to the needs of that community. Finding help for drug addiction is paramount, and when you can attend a program where you feel comfortable, this will contribute to your overall sobriety. Drug rehabilitation programs in Alaska do include private and state-funded services, to help anyone battling addiction. Within the LGBTQ community, roughly 20 to 30 % of the people who are part of this community, do struggle with substance abuse issues.
