Drug & Alcohol Addiction Services for the LGBTQ Community in Iowa

When someone chooses to abuse drugs and alcohol, there can be many different reasons why. For members of the LGBTQ community who live in Iowa, they may struggle with addiction because of emotional or physical trauma or abuse. Other concerns may be because of discrimination, and an internalized self-hatred because of their sexual orientation. Drugs will provide temporary relief for the problems they are facing, yet it will amplify the negative feelings and cause them to use more drugs. Drug abuse is a problem that can be effectively treated, but it will require treatment. Drug treatment services in the state of Iowa do include inpatient and outpatient services. When choosing a drug treatment service, you should be considering all your options, such as those that are private programs or state-funded services in Iowa. Roughly 20 to 30% of LGBTQ people do struggle with some type of substance use disorder.
