Drug & Alcohol Addiction Services for the LGBTQ Community in Maine

Drug treatment programs in Maine will include some specific treatment options for members of the LGBTQ community. Roughly 20 to 30% of people who identify as LGBTQ will struggle with some type of substance use disorder. For example, gay men are 12.5 times more likely to abuse amphetamines, and nine times more likely to abuse heroin. Drug addiction is a dangerous problem, and when you can find the right help, you can be able to overcome your drug problem. Treatment services in Maine include state-funded and private treatment programs. For members of the LGBTQ community, a program specific to their needs would provide counseling and support for the problems they do face. There are many reasons why someone would choose to abuse drugs and alcohol, and in many situations, this may be because of some type of emotional or physical abuse, or it may simply be out of boredom.
