In the state of New Mexico, families and addicts have access to numerous resources, most of which are listed on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website directory. However, there is no specific category on the SAMHSA website for medical or legal professionals who are searching for help for addiction. People working within these profession's struggle with substance abuse problems just like anyone else, but there are client specific services to help treat people from these different jobs such as doctors, lawyers, and judges, etc.

Will using drugs and alcohol at a young age affect a person’s health?

Every person's body is different, but extensive abuse, whether it is short-term or long-term can potentially affect a person's health. Many people when they are young feel that they can overcome these problems without any type of help. For example, a person working within a medical or legal profession may not be too quick to ask for help if they are struggling with a substance abuse problem. They may attempt to get over the issue on their own, but this will not always be successful and could be dangerous for them physically and mentally.
