A common example of a co-occurring disorder is someone who is suffering from depression and cocaine addiction. Co-occurring disorders can be treated at one of the inpatient or outpatient drug rehabilitation programs in Colorado. Co-occurring disorders are defined as a combination of mental illness and substance abuse problems. The proper treatment for these types of problems will involve some type of drug treatment program. It is important for anyone struggling with a co-occurring disorder within the state of Colorado to reach out to local treatment programs for help. Drug detox should be the first step because most addicts who are struggling with a mental illness will be taking prescribed narcotics, which are often mixed with the drugs they are abusing. The combination of prescribed drugs and illegal drugs is dangerous and can lead to overdose. Drug rehabilitation centers throughout Colorado can help addicts who are suffering from a dual diagnosis. The treatment process will not always be easy but must be done to fully help someone with this problem.
