All throughout Puerto Rico, drug and alcohol abuse is impacting more and more individuals each year. Unfortunately, for many people living there, they are struggling with a co-occurring disorder, which means they have been diagnosed with a mental illness and a substance abuse disorder. The proper treatment for a co-occurring disorder should be done with a combination of drug rehabilitation and proper therapy. Some patients attending drug treatment in Puerto Rico may require medication management to help them through their therapy. Detox centers in Puerto Rico will help patients with a co-occurring disorder withdrawal from dangerous drugs or provide the necessary medical detox. Struggling with mental illness and drug addiction is difficult, and drugs do become a solution for people who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services and mental health programs are fully equipped to treat co-occurring disorders.
