Families witnessing a loved one struggle with addiction is difficult to go through. Some of the drug rehab centers in Alaska will provide family services. This will include family counseling and therapy. Along with programs to help pregnant women who are addicts. This is an important treatment process because it is not uncommon for pregnant women to be addicted to drugs. This often happens prior to becoming pregnant, where the woman is already addicted to drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, they do not stop taking drugs during pregnancy. This is dangerous to both the mother and the unborn child. Family Services at a drug rehab center will also provide residential beds for children of addicts. This is often the scenario where an addict has kids and requires help to care for them. This is not always the set-up with every drug rehab center. Yet, there are some programs providing this service.

Are there intake sessions for families?

An intake session for a family will involve the family having a chance to speak with counselors and explore what types of healthy changes can be made within their lives. All of these sessions are private and confidential and families can work through the issues they are facing. More importantly, they will gain valuable knowledge about addiction, why their loved one may be going through an addiction, and what they can do to help him or her.
