Drug and alcohol addiction is a common problem for many people in North Carolina. The actions of an addict will impact the family dynamic in many ways. Most family members will not know what is happening. Along with this, they will be unsure of how to help their loved ones. Family services at an outpatient or inpatient drug treatment center will help. This will help family members who need counseling and therapy. It will also ensure they can work through unresolved issues they are struggling with. Addiction becomes a family problem. When the addict is unable to get the support they need after treatment, they may relapse. The family should be supportive during treatment and after rehab. This does not mean enabling the person but being a stable part of his or her life is essential. Another family service can include help for pregnant women who are addicted to drugs. This will often be a residential drug rehab center and will have proper medical supervision.

Will family members lose time from work due to counseling schedules?

Not necessarily, most of this counseling is done on an outpatient basis, unless something different is set up where the patient will remain on-site during the time they require. Some counseling schedules are more intense than others and may require more of a time commitment. Counseling can be worked around schedules with places of work, and the proper attention should be put into the process and ensuring counseling can be done properly.
