For many families in Michigan, there are situations where children are growing up in a home with drug-addicted parents. This can be the case with one parent or both. When children grow up in a home with drug-addicted parents, they see drug use as normal. When this happens, they are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol when they start to grow-up. Some of the drug and alcohol treatment centers in Michigan offer accommodations for addicted parents with children. This may be daycare services or a residential center with in-house care. The level of accommodation is different for each program. The children are often included in the family therapy process. This is important to address the underlying issues. Children are often put through different trauma and experiences because of addiction. It is important for parents to understand they can be good parents again. Treating addiction is the most important thing and finding a program to address all the needs is essential.
