Situated on the north end of the mid-atlantic, Maryland hosts various highways and routes that are used for shipment of different illicit items, including drugs, destined for New York city. Its major seaport is an entrance point for international drug trafficking. It is also home to major metropolitan areas, namely, Baltimore and Washington, DC, which only serves to compound the drug problem people are addicted to drugs. It's most abused drugs are cocaine (crack cocaine), marijuana, heroin.
Cocaine and crack cocaine are mostly abused in Washington, DC and the cities surrounding it, but it is also seen across the entire state of Maryland. Wholesale level has been reported to come from cities of New York and Atlanta. The price of cocaine went up in recent years ago due to a shortage of cocaine.
Local authorities report that regions along the eastern shore, and in western Maryland are heavy in crack cocaine abuse, which is also accompanied by drug-related crime and violence.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the state of Maryland operates the Substance Abuse Certification Unit, which is the licensing agent, and is part of the Drug Abuse Administration that does help certify and approve the substance abuse treatment programs in the state of Maryland. There are numerous different services throughout the state of Maryland, which do provide assistance for persons with addiction, substance abuse problems, and co-occurring disorders. It is also important to know that within the state of Maryland are services available, which do provide addiction assessments. Drug Detox Services
If an addict has been clean for some time, and is seeking to attend a rehabilitation program, they will not necessarily require a detox period, unless it is a standard procedure by the treatment center to have some type of observation period. Within the state of Maryland are many different drug detox facilities and services, which do include medical detox programs and detox from Methadone. Other services offer traditional detox from most drugs, while opiate addicts can attend detox programs delivering Buprenorphine and or Suboxone, which are drugs used in the treatment of opiate abuse. Detox is necessary for all drugs, as each drug affects a person physically in some way, and the patient must be physically ready to enter into a rehabilitation program.
