Alcohol And Drug Rehab Programs For DWI/DUI Offenders In California

When a person is charged with a DUI or a DWI in the state of California, they will end up losing their license and being fined on their first offence. On any second or third offence, the person will be looking at jail time, bigger fines, and longer periods without their license. In a DUI court when a person pleads guilty to their charge, the judge will give them an opportunity to go to a treatment center to get some help. In the state of California, there are well over 70 different substance programs that are capable of admitting into their program these types of clients. Alcohol-Impaired Driving in California

Alcohol-impaired driving is a problem that continually arises within every state across the nation. Some states have a handle on it better than others, and alcohol-impaired driving stats are much different within each state. Within the state of California, drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher are considered alcohol-impaired by law. Within the United States, one in three traffic deaths involves a drunk driver. However, over recent years, drunk driving and alcohol-involved fatal crashes have gone down. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the number of deaths in California between 2003 and 2012 because of drunk-driving was 10,327.

The rate of alcohol-impaired deaths by age is much different within the state. Within the state 4.5 per 100,000 population among those aged 21 to 34, and 1.8 per 100,000 population aged 35 plus dies due to impaired driving. More men than women died because of impaired driving and 1.8% of adults in California report driving after drinking too much. There have been many strategies within the state that have helped prevent drunk-driving. Driving laws are zero tolerance for anyone under the age of 21; sobriety checkpoints allow police to stop vehicles to check for impaired driving briefly. Ignition Interlock devices are installed in cars for people that have been convicted of drunk driving and are highly effective in preventing drunk driving. Other measures, such as multi-component interventions, mass media campaigns, drug education, alcohol screening, and brief intervention, have helped keep drunk drivers off the road.
