An employee assistance program is a program that provides counseling and short-term assistance for people in need. Many of the businesses in Alaska, whether small or big may have an employee assistance program. Unfortunately, many employees are unaware that these programs exist, and employees do not often take advantage of the available services. Employee assistance programs are entirely confidential and do provide support for people battling substance abuse and other mental health problems. The extent of what is offered through an employee assistance program will depend on the service provider that offers the program. Many employers will have an employee assistance program set up through the same company that provides health insurance plans. Anyone battling drug or alcohol addiction in Alaska should reach out for help, and when drug problems begin to impact what is happening at work, that will be time to reach out to the employee assistance program, if there is one available.
