The village of Fishkill is located in Dutchess County and is part of two metropolitan statistical areas. The population of the town is over 2,100 and is part of the city Fishkill with a median age of 42 and approximately 15% of the people are living below the poverty line. According to the Drug Overdose, Treatment, and Prevention Data Trends for Dutchess County, 2010-2016, the total number of overdoses more than doubled from 2005 to 2016. Additionally, there was a 192% increase in the number of heroin-related overdose deaths. Dutchess County also experienced the highest rate of fatal heroin-overdose deaths in New York State from 2009 to 2013. Non-pharmaceutical grade fentanyl is responsible for countless deaths across the county and within the state. In 2016, approximately 43% of accidental overdose deaths in Dutchess County were due to fentanyl, which was a significant increase from 2010, where it was only 3% of deaths. From 2003 to 2009 and 2010 to 2016, the number of accidental overdoses in the county more than doubled from 167 to 348. More than one-third of the overdose deaths in the county involved adults between the age of 41 to 50. One-fifth of the deaths involved adults between 51 and 60, 31 and 40 years old, and between 21 and 30 years old.
