What is Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment?

Outpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment is defined as any kind of method or approach to addiction treatment that is done on an outpatient basis. This means that the clients and patients of outpatient rehabilitation do not enter into the rehab facility and stay there and live there until they beat their habits. Rather, the clients and patients of outpatient therapy go to the outpatient center on a regular basis and attend classes, courses, counseling, therapy, group sessions, detoxification, or other types of services, and then they go home.

Outpatient mostly consists of counseling and therapy. Outpatient treatments are especially good for struggling drug and alcohol addicts who have only had their addictions for a very short time, such as a few weeks or a few months. Outpatient drug and alcohol addiction therapy enable addicts to address their drug or alcohol problem without having to leave their jobs or families for an extended period of time. However, the fault of outpatient treatment is that there is no safety, security, or structure. There is no live-in environment protecting addicts from going back out and relapsing mid-treatment like there is at an inpatient center.

Substance abuse treatment is best taken on in an outpatient center when the addict has only been addicted for a very short while. Another great strength of outpatient centers is that they make great aftercare programs. In this way, addicts go to a residential rehab center, get help there and tackle the brunt of their addiction, and once they are cleaned up and sober such individuals can go to an outpatient center to clean themselves up further.
