Freeport is a village in the town of Hempstead within Nassau County and is on the south shore of Long Island. The population of the town is estimated at around 44,000 people with a median age of 37 and a rate of poverty of approximately 12%. However, the hospitalizations due to opioid abuse in the county declined between 2012 and 2014, dropping well below 200 per 100,000 population.
